A year ago, I bought a domain and registered on WordPress. And today we’re celebrating one year of blogging! Hurray!
Note that I didn’t call this post “I’m” celebrating 1 year of blogging, but “WE” are celebrating 1 year of blogging. You played part in this achievement too. Without you, this blog wouldn’t have come this far. But before we go on celebrating, I’d like to tell you how I got into blogging in the first place.
Back in Mexico, I used to teach English in a classroom setting. I almost always started my classes by writing a motivational quote on the white board. My students loved the “Today’s Inspiration” introduction of my classes. Even the students who always came late started arriving to class earlier just because they didn’t want to miss that day’s quote. It was then that I realized that besides teaching grammar, I also enjoyed inspiring and encouraging my students to dream big. One time I even made them create their own vision boards so that they could talk about their future plans (in English of course).
When I moved abroad, one of the things I missed most about Mexico was my job and my students. But when I realized that finding a job as an English teacher here in the Netherlands would take some time, I came up with the idea of starting a blog. Blogging allowed me to keep passing on a message, and keep inspiring people. And some of my former students even subscribed to it. Even though the setting is different, the tools are the same. I use grammatical structures and inspiring quotes to craft my posts. Blogging filled a void in my career and in my heart, and I’m beyond passionate about it.
I want to start this celebration party by giving a shout out to my friends Stella, Camila Andrea, Yvette, Maritza, Lucía, Ana, Diana, Camillla Downs, Rachel Heller, Martje, Jennifer, Rafa Santana, and Antonio. Your support and words of encouragement mean the world to me.
Special thanks to my friend Yvon, who is also a blogger at Embracing My Wings. Thanks for expressing genuine interest in my posts, and for being my accountability partner in this blogging journey. I cannot thank you enough!
Thanks to Erin Quigley. She was the first person who ever sent me an email telling me she was a fan of my blog, and she even shared one of my posts on her site. THANK YOU Erin, your email made me the happiest woman that day.
Thanks to Paige, for being the first (and only) blogger who ever gave me a Liebster Award. I’m forever grateful for you girl!
I would also like to thank my friend Karen Ova, for helping me out with the illustrations for some of my posts, and for firmly believing in what I have to share with the world. Thank you Karen, I’m a big fan of your work.
Stacy, oh my God. I don’t even know where to start. Stacy is the editor of this blog. She corrects the funkiness in my posts and makes them more beautiful. Thank you so much my friend. You absolutely rock!
And last but not least. I’d like to thank Marten, my partner and best friend. He’s always encouraging me to do what I love. When a post comes out of the oven, he’s the first one to read it. His love and support keep me inspired to write. Thank you baby for believing in me. You are my rock.
I’m probably missing some people here, but I just want to thank all the people who at some point read, commented, liked, shared, pinned, tweeted, or in some way showed love to my posts during this year. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU.
And if this is the first time you’re here, welcome to the party!
Over the past year I’ve published 42 posts, including this one. I’ve made a list of my favorite blog posts. If you haven’t read them yet, I highly recommend you to do so.

Let’s now make a toast and eat a piece of this delicious chocolate cake I baked especially for this occasion. It’s gluten-free, and dairy-free because, why not?
Here’s to many more years of blogging! I hope I will continue to see you around.
