There was a time I used to feel very worried and anxious about paying for my basic needs. No matter how hard I worked, it seemed there was never enough money to pay my bills. Having to pay for rent and groceries can be challenging when you don’t have a steady income. At that time, I was sharing a flat with other roommates and moving very often, two or three times a year. I was working in a day job that didn’t satisfy me, hoping one day I would quit that job and have financial freedom and time to start doing what I love. However, days and months passed and I noticed I became ill. My energy levels were very low and I often felt stressed, overworked, and drained. I realized I had to do something to regain my health and happiness.
After a bit of research, I came across the chakra concept and learned that balancing them can help us live a better lifestyle. The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit and means wheel. According to tantric Hinduism traditions, there are seven chakras in our body that work as energy channels. When all seven chakras are balanced, our health is perfect. When one of these is closed, we become ill.
The first chakra is the root chakra, and it is all about safety and survival. It’s also known as Muladhara, which means root and support. It is located at the base of the spine, its color is red, and its element is earth. It is also represented by a lotus flower with four petals. We block the root chakra when we worry about money, or we do not live in a place we feel comfortable with. Spending so much time inside our house or behind a desk can also block it.
So how can we open the root chakra?
Lie down on the floor, close your eyes, and visualize yourself being grounded. Feel your body. Imagine that your feet have roots and you are one with this earth. Enjoy the present moment.
Surround yourself by nature, walk barefoot, feel the grass, and ground your feet to mother earth. Take out your yoga mat and stretch your body.
Eat Plenty of Red Goodies
Eat root vegetables like sweet potatoes, beetroots, carrots, and turnips. Eat fruits and vegetables that are red in color, like strawberries, pomegranate, red apples, goji berries, tomatoes, and many more!
Wear Red Clothes
In the same way that food does, the clothes we wear bring a certain energy too. Color is a powerful vibration; therefore, wearing red can help you balance the root chakra.
Another big eye-opener for me was minimalism. I quit many things that weren’t serving me. I stopped buying things I didn’t need, I got rid of the clutter in my house, and I stayed away from people who weren’t a vibrational match to me. And because of all this, I now have plenty of time (and money) to do things I love, like traveling, writing, and drawing.
Many people focus so much on experiencing a state of enlightenment when they haven’t even taken care of the fundamentals. To become your greatest self, you must develop a solid foundation. Once I put my meditation and exercise into order, my energy levels increased and my anxiety and depression disappeared. I quit my day job and started working on things that I’m passionate about (this blog is one of them). I also realized was that the less I cared about money, the more money I attracted. Consequently, I started to feel more grounded and safe, worrying less from day to day.
Applying these simple chakra healing techniques helped me balance my mental, emotional, and physical health.
